-It is unfair how blacks were paid less than whites were.
-An important fact is that Virginia enlisted the most African American soldiers.
-It was a good idea to name some of the blacks enlisted in the war and what they did.
-Colonal Smith has his head right on his shoulders, and is helping lead the Army to success.
-It was hard for Washington to prepare thousands of untrained soldiers for battle.

-Was it a requirement for a black to be free in order to be in the Continental Army?
- Why did Cox decide to give some explanations of some of the black soldiers, and none of the white?
-How did Barton feel once he received his award for his great accomplishment?
-What was the point of the poem?

- Sentry: "...single sentry standing guard," (Cox 72). (Def: a member of a guard or watch).

- Dysentery: "...3,000 died of starvation, exposure, typhus, pneumonia, smallpox, dysentery, and other illnesses, (Cox 84). (Def: an infection of the intestines marked by severe diarrhea).

2 Literary Devices:
-Personification: "The commandos' oars were muffled..." (Cox 71). This is personification because it says the oars were muffled. Oars can't be muffled.

- Hyperbole: "...was paid so little he couldn't afford to buy soap..." (Cox 73).This is a hyperbole because they exxaggerate the little pay.
