-The quote by one of the southerners to me means that he finally realized how blacks could do and be apart of great things.
-It's kind of ironic that it was harder for whites to get in the Continental Army than blacks.
-In this section we see a fight to get more and more blacks and whites into the Continental Army.
-It is kind of funny how the story compares the south as a battle.
-I would imagine that William Flora felt a great pressure moving up in his class as high as he did.

-How was Washington's attitude toward his slave befor the war different during it?
-If it was a crime for blacks to carry weapons, why were they allowed to be in the war?
-Why is it that they use the word black as well as the word negros?
-Why is it so that blacks were stil being mistreated in the war, even though they were doing their part in the war?

-Vagabond: "...nor any stroller, negro, or vagabond..."(Cox 36). (Def:
A person without a permanent home who moves from place to place).
-Adjutant: "...wrote his adjutant general..." (cox 38). (Def: a staff officer who assists the commanding officer in issuing orders).
-Emblazoned: "'Liberty to Slaves' emblazoned across their chest," (Cox 42). (Def:To adorn richly with prominent markings).
2 Literary Devices:
-Personification: "...a moon 'shining in its full luster,'" (Cox 44). This is personification because is says the moon has luster.
-Irony: "...that all men are created equal..." (Cox 47). This is irony because we know that even though it says all men are created equal, blacks as well as other groups were stil mistreated.
1 Summary Sentence:This sectionof the novel is explaining the struggle of the different officials and their roles in the COntinental Army.
