- Many meetings had to be in private areas in order for them to be confidential most times.
-Stories of black men were often were used to talk about different techniques. An example is John Peterson.
-Sherwood and Peterson were very anxious and eager to start shooting at the barge.
- Battles were spread out all over the place miles apart.
- Fergusen was shot and killed with seven bullets. This is enough bullets to kill at least four men.

- Fortifications (Cox 124): the act of fortifying or strengthening.
-Bayonets (Cox 127): A blade adapted to fit the muzzle end of a rifle and used as a weapon in close combat.

2 Literary Devices
- Personification: "...seven shots ripped through his body and dozens of others literally tore apart his clothes" (Cox 126). This is personification because it says shots ripped. Shots can't rip things.
- Hyperbole: "Greene ordered one man hanged for stealing food and forced his comrades to watch" (Cox 129). This is a hyperbole because it shows that Greene went overboard with teh punishment.
